It was eight o’clock in the evening at Celesta’s house. It was quiet, very quiet. There were six people at the table in the dining room: Colonel White, Miss Green, Professor Peacock, Mrs Mustard, Doctor Plum and Celesta.

It was cold in the dining room. They were hungry because the food wasn’t good. There was a cold potato, a piece of cold meat and lettuce. They were thirsty but there wasn’t any wine, only a glass of water.

Probe, Celesta’s butler and cook, was at the door of the dining room. He was tall with black hair but he wasn’t very good-looking. He wasn’t a very good butler, and he was an awful cook. He was in the kitchen at the moment.

Then, there was a scream. It was Celesta. She was in the kitchen. Probe was also in the kitchen. He was dead. There was a knife on the table. It was red. Who was the murderer?

After half an hour the police were there.

Detective Smith: I know who the murderer was! You see, Doctor Plum, Colonel White and Professor Peacock were in the living room, and Mrs Mustard and Miss Green were in the garden. Only you, Celesta, were alone in your bedroom. You were Probe’s murderer, weren’t you, Celesta?!

Celesta: It’s true. I was hungry! I was thirsty! I was bored with cold potatoes, cold meat and lettuce! I was unhappy with Probe.

Detective Smith: Thank you everyone. Celesta, please come with me.
