HOLIDAY PLANS

Dear Holiday-maker,

I hope you are enjoying your visit to the Avalon Hotel. I am writing to let you know about an extra trip we are going to arrange for Thursday morning. We are going to visit Arundel Castle and I believe it will take us about 2 hours from here. A coach leaves at 11 am and it will return approximately at 8 pm. Please remember this is not part of your package so, although the coach is free, you will have to pay an entrance fee of 5 pounds to get into the castle.

Arundel is a lovely old town with pleasant walks by the river and interesting shops. You are going to see the castle standing on the hill outside the town. The castle is about 800 years old, but the present building is not that old. You will not see an old ruin as some of the present owners are currently using it as their home. However, a large part of the castle is open to the public.

You are going to see the library with the wonderful ceiling and a beautiful bathroom which even the royal family once used. The furniture dates from the 17th century and you will probably be fascinated when you see some famous paintings in the picture gallery.

We will arrive there at lunchtime and the castle has its own restaurant where you will taste delicious home-made food. There are always plenty of free tables. I suppose you would like to have a traditional English tea in the restaurant at 5 o’clock.

So, if you would like to join us on our trip, please ask at Reception by Monday dinnertime at the latest and we will add your name to the list.
